All educational institutes in Anantnag to establish compost pits: DC

Anantnag, Dec 09: Deputy Commissioner Anantnag, Dr Basharat Qayoom Friday reviewed the functioning of Rural Development Department in the District. Physical and financial progress for MGNREGA, District CAPEX, Amrut Sarovar and PMAY R schemes was reviewed across all blocks.
The DC was informed that Anantnag is the first district in the UT where compost pits have been planned in all educational institutions and 90% of these have been completed already. The Deputy Commissioner said that development of compost pits will be instrumental in ensuring proper disposal of waste as well as enable the shaping of right acumen among the students and they can translate the same change in their own residences and surroundings. He said the step will also familiarise students with concepts of organic manure and the benefits of using it.
During the review, Dr Basharat said that ensuring physical and financial progress of works is a priority. He said that 70% financial progress must be booked for works in consistency with guidelines from Finance Department and set a strict deadline of 1 week to achieve the same. Laying special emphasis on rejuvenation of water bodies, the DC said that Amrit Sarovar works are a priority and must be completed in stipulated times. Reviewing block wise progress of implementation of various schemes, the DC fixed timelines for completion of works and booking expenditure.
ACD Anantnag presented scheme wise progress in various blocks. He informed the chair that nearly 1.5 million person days have been generated under MG NREGA this year and the district is on path to achieve 100% generation as per the allotted target. He assured the chair that works under District CAPEX are being taken up with full steam and financial expenditure is being monitored regularly to ensure timely disbursal of payments. He shared that 95% of payments under material component have also been completed in the district.
The meeting was attended by ADC, JD Planning, ACD, Executive Engineer, all BDOs and AEs from the community development blocks.
