New Delhi, Dec 23: In alignment with Prime Minister’s vision of making India a Vishwa Guru, the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has proudly announced 2025 as the “Year of Artificial Intelligence (AI)”.
This transformative initiative will span across AICTE-approved institutions, impacting over 14,000 colleges and 40 million students nationwide.
Artificial Intelligence, a cornerstone of modern technological advancement, is set to revolutionize industries, economies, and societies. With this bold announcement, AICTE aims to embed AI within the fabric of higher education, fostering innovation, ethics, and leadership to position India as a global leader in AI-driven progress.
Key Highlights of the Initiative
1. AI Affirmation Pledge
AICTE calls upon institutions to adopt the pledge:
“We pledge to position India as a Vishwa Guru in AI, leading innovation, ethics, and education, fulfilling our Prime Minister’s vision.”
Institutions will formally adopt this pledge, integrate it into their ethos, and display it prominently on campuses.
2. Comprehensive AI Integration
Institutions are encouraged to:
○ Introduce interdisciplinary AI courses and research programs.
○ Establish AI labs aligned with industry standards.
○ Promote ethical AI practices for societal benefits.
3. AI Awareness Campaigns
A nationwide initiative titled “AI for All: The Future Begins Here” will include:
○ AI Awareness Weeks featuring workshops, hackathons, and guest lectures.
○ Formation of AI Student Chapters to drive innovation.
○ Career counseling programs focused on AI-driven professions.
4. Faculty Development and Industry Collaboration
AICTE will facilitate workshops and certifications to upskill faculty in AI teaching. Partnerships with leading organizations like Adobe, CISCO, and IBM will enhance real-world exposure for students through internships, projects, and mentorships.
5. Recognition of Excellence
AICTE will honor top-performing institutions with awards and recognition as models of AI excellence.
Call to Action
AICTE urges all institutions to submit their AI Implementation Plans by December 31, 2024. Plans will be reviewed by the AICTE Approval Bureau, with top submissions featured as benchmarks for other institutions.
Chairman, AICTE, Prof. T.G. Sitharam, stated: “As we dedicate 2025 as the Year of Artificial Intelligence, let us unite to build a future-ready workforce. Together, we can shape India as a global leader in AI innovation, ethics, and education, fulfilling our shared vision of self-reliance and prosperity.”
