Srinagar, May 18: The National Security Guard (NSG) commandos conducted an area dominance and security sanitisation exercise in Srinagar’s Lal Chowk on Thursday. to check its response time and reaction ahead of the G20 meeting in Valley. According to officials , they were accompanied by Jammu and Kashmir Police and CRPF men.
The NSG commandos searched a few hotels in the Lal Chowk area of the city and conducted dominance drills there.
NSG commandos conducted a dominance exercise at Lal Chowk and the surrounding areas, according to a senior police official who spoke to Rising Kashmir about the exercise. These elite commandos would conduct many simulated drills across the city in the next for to five days,, he added.
Along with the special operations group (SOG), NSG commandos will be deployed in counter-fidayeen actions. At all locations, specialised NSG teams for counter-drone operations would be stationed, he added.
The officer stated that many rumours about the G20 meeting are being pushed by various elements and that people should not pay attention to such things since the situation is entirely under control.
“Police or security agencies have not imposed any ban on the movement of tourists or people in Srinagar next week. The rumour is completely baseless, and the police have ordered probe against people who spread these things on social media,” he said.
The officer said there will be no restrictions on public movement during the G20 summit. However, when delegates will move from one venue to another that time traffic will be stopped on that specific route due to security reasons, he said.
The officer said it is a proud moment for Jammu and Kashmir police to host such an international event and all security arrangements have been finalized.
G20’s tourism working group is scheduled to meet in Srinagar between May 22 and May 24. The meet is expected to be one of the most high-profile events hosted in Jammu and Kashmir recently.
The meetings will take place at the Sher-e-Kashmir International Conference Centre. Delegates will visit Gulmarg in North Kashmir during their stay.
On Wednesday, Director General of Jammu and Kashmir Police, Dilbag Singh urged officers for increased patrolling, night domination to ensure that anti-peace elements are not given any chance to create any disturbance. Close liaison must be maintained at every level to foil any attempt of troublemakers, he said.
