Agri dept signs MoU with Women’s College Srinagar to train students in skill courses

Srinagar, June 23: The Directorate of Agriculture Kashmir has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Govt. College for Women M.A Road Srinagar to felicitate students to attract them towards small-scale agri enterprises.
The MOU has been signed between Director Agriculture Kashmir Chowdhury Mohammad Iqbal and Principal GCW, M.A Road Srinagar, Prof. Ruhi Jan Kanth.
Subject Matter Specialist (Sub Divisional Level) Department of Agriculture, Nisar Ahmad said the college will start skill development courses and the MoU has been signed with the agriculture department to felicitate and give guidance to the students.
“The college will start some skill courses in mushroom cultivation, apiculture and we will provide them expertise, training, field training so that students learn skills,” he said.
Nisar said it is an important step towards the promotion of small-scale Agri-enterprises like mushroom cultivation and attract educated young minds towards these enterprises.
The Subject Matter Specialist said the agriculture dept. has a special wing for mushroom cultivation and high-end lab where farmers get handholding and technical guidance.
He said the MoU will provide an opportunity to reach out to students and make them understand skill-based interventions in agriculture and allied sectors from the young age.
“We will be able to incorporate agri-skills among students which will make them acquainted with basic agriculture activities and increase the employability among students in agriculture and allied sector,” he said.
Nisar also said that skilled youth can play a vital role in development of agriculture sector in the region and could contribute to the economic of the valley. He added the main aim is to make educated youth job providers, not the job seekers.
As per the MoU, the agriculture dept. will facilitate interaction and linkages with industry and professional bodies as per the domain expertise.
He said the department will also facilitate internships/practical training of students in the industry at the local, regional and national level.
“We will also facilitate technical resources including high end equipment labs for trainees as per mutually agreed terms and conditions between the college and department,” he added.
