Srinagar, Apr 12: Kashmir Youth Federation on Sunday organised a meeting in Srinagar in which scores of youth participated and discussed the growing challenges confronting young people in Jammu and Kashmir.
In a statement issued here, the Federation expressed serious concern over rising unemployment and increasing drug abuse, saying both issues are taking a heavy toll on the youth and society at large. Participants in the meeting noted that the lack of adequate job opportunities has led to frustration and uncertainty among young people.
While welcoming Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha’s launch of the 100-day campaign under the Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyan, the Federation stressed that more concrete and sustained efforts are required to tackle the menace effectively. “The administration must take serious and proactive measures to eradicate this growing threat,” a spokesperson of the Federation said.
The Federation also observed that the unemployment graph has increased manifold over the years, adding that successive governments have failed to adequately address the issue. It urged the administration to come up with comprehensive policies focusing on employment generation, skill development and youth engagement.
The participants called for a coordinated approach involving government agencies, civil society and communities to safeguard the future of the youth.
