Srinagar, May 15: The Handicrafts and Handloom Department, Kashmir, in collaboration with the Ministry of Textiles, organised a two-day consultative workshop at SKICC on strategies for achieving USD 100 billion textile exports by 2030, bringing together policymakers, exporters, industry leaders, artisans and entrepreneurs to deliberate on enhancing exports and positioning local products in global markets under the ‘Local to Global’ framework.

On Day-2, Commissioner Secretary, Industries and Commerce, held detailed deliberations with stakeholders on export promotion, market access and value chain strengthening. He highlighted the immense potential of the region’s handicrafts and handloom sector and emphasised focused interventions in branding, quality enhancement and export competitiveness.

Day-1 featured discussions under the District Export Action Plan framework, focusing on district-specific export strengths and sectoral opportunities. Day-2 focused on the State/UT Export Action Plan through wider consultations on policy interventions and export-oriented growth strategies for the textile sector.

The Ministry of Textiles has designated Budgam and Baramulla as Aspirational Districts, while Srinagar has been identified as a Champion District, recognising the textile and handicraft potential of these districts for focused interventions and export promotion initiatives.

Participants discussed major themes including export competitiveness, Foreign Trade Policy 2023, District Export Hub initiatives, Free Trade Agreements, sustainability and ESG frameworks, and cluster development models.

Officials said recommendations from the workshop will feed into a National Consultative Summit scheduled for June 2026 to formulate a comprehensive strategy for achieving the USD 100 billion textile export target by 2030.
