Srinagar, May 17: The J&K Whitewater Kayak Marathon, held in May 2024, covered a distance of 50.09 kilometers from Verinag, the starting point, to Sangam, the finishing line.
Professional kayaker Reyaz Ahmed Bujal bravely and safely completed the course, which features an elevation of 1,790 meters above sea level and an elevation gain of 535 meters, setting a new record.
The event was fraught with challenges and hardships in the demanding waters, requiring athletes to be highly active, quick-thinking, and sharp-eyed, as a single mistake could result in failure and injury.
This marathon serves as an awareness initiative to highlight the hidden natural resources and provide a positive path for young people, steering them away from drugs and crime.
The sports department plays a crucial role in developing better athletes through fair and supportive practices. Sarfaraz Ahmed Khan from Mumbai was the guest of honor, and special thanks go to Thomas Medicious for providing medical first-aid.
