Teacher holds the highest regard for students after their parents. All cultures and religions preach that students are supposed to respect their teachers, and should try to learn from them not only what is in their academics curriculum but also the values of life.
Teachers play an important role in building the personality of a student and the relationship which they develop with them determines the student’s academic and personal growth.
If we look towards our past, we can see a lot of incidents regarding the teacher student positive relationship. The students were very co-operative with their teachers. They used to obey their teachers, and they used to do all the work which their teachers would assign them. The big thing which was among them was that they were very respectful to their teachers.
Now, if we look towards our present generation students,we are not able to see that much strength in the bond of teacher and a student relationship.
A teacher – student relationship can be developed by developing a learning environment where the student feels free to ask whatever he wants to and the teacher should respond in a manner which is understandable by the student.
Therefore it would not be wrong to say that the building block of a strong teacher – student relationship is “effective communication”.
The level of respect that exists between the two also has a vital role to play in developing a positive teacher – student relationship.
A major hindrance to the strengthens of their relationship is different types of students present in a classroom. Some of the students are hard working and come to school to learn. But there are also other students who are aggressive in nature and find it difficult for themselves to concentrate on what is happening in the classroom.
They continuously distract others and also spoil the learning environment of the class. In order to overcome this hindrance, the teacher needs to be extremely patient.
Teacher should maintain a balance between leniency and strictness as excess of any of the two could cause a total chaos. It is teachers responsibility to monitor every student individually so, that their progress could be monitored and attention can be divided between the students accordingly.
The overall size of the classroom is also vital in determining how effective a teacher – student relationship could be. The larger the size of the classroom, the more difficult it would be for the teacher to provide individual attention to each and every student.
So, school administration should make sure that class size is kept small which would allow a much better learning environment for teacher – student relationship to flourish.
With the growing competition in society it is essential that people improve their relationships with eachother. Amongst all these relationships a teacher-student relationship is of utmost importance which needs to be looked after properly. So, that young children could grow up to become educated and the responsible citizens.
