Amid rainfall & cold weather thousands offer prayers at Dastgeer sahib shrine on annual Urs

Srinagar, 07 Nov: Despite cold weather conditions, thousands of people on Monday thronged the shrine of revered saint Sheikh Syed Abdul Qadir Jeelani (RA), commonly known as ‘Datageer Sahib’ at Khanyar and offered prayers on the annual Urs. 
 
Officials of J&K Waqf Board told Rising Kashmir that adequate arrangements have been put in place for devotees during the Urs days and also nightlong prayers were held at the shrine during which devotees offered Durood shareef and recited Holy Quran for seeking the blessing of Allah.
 
“The shrines have been decorated by the Waqf Board, adequate arrangements have been made by the Waqf board authorities during the Urs days. Despite inclement weather conditions, the devotees were facilitated throughout the day. The holy relic was displayed after every prayer today and will be displayed tomorrow five times also and finally then on following Friday”, the officials said.
 
Throughout the day, devotees flocked to the shrine in great numbers to catch a glimpse of the holy relic after each prayer of the day.
 
During the display of holy relics at the shrine, emotional scenes were witnessed as devotees made earnest prayers amid sobs and tears of overwhelming emotion.
 
The annual Urs of Dastgeer Sahab (RA), which was marked with religious fire and enthusiasm on Monday, is observed yearly in the month of Rabi Al Thani, the fourth month of the Islamic Hijri Calendar.
 
Outside the shrines, the local and non-local business establishments had installed carts and were seen selling the Kashmir traditional food stuff.
 
Meanwhile, traffic officials told Rising Kashmir that special arrangements were also made for the smooth passage to the commuters today at Sarai Bala and Khanyar areas of Srinagar where the shrines of Dastgeer Sahab (RA) are located.
