Drass, Feb 27: First of its kind, the Community Radio Station (CRS) at Drass in union territory of Ladakh was inaugurated on Monday by LT Gen Anendiya Sen Gupta, GOC Fire and Fury Crops, here at Army GoodWill School (AGS).
The radio station will cover Drass, the Shina Speaking town in Ladakh, and its surrounding villages and reach out to nearly 25 thousand citizens. The CRS will be operated by local staff.
The aim of the FM Radio Station is to provide updates and information related to various relevant issues
including government schemes, agriculture and rural development, education, youth and women empowerment, career prospects, cultural promotion and other issues relevant to the people of Drass.
CRS aims towards development of local communities for improving their quality of life & address issues of local concern. It will strengthen radio sector, create capacity building
and with an outreach of 10-15 kms, be a lifeline in times of natural calamities and disasters.
The Radio Drass at 90.4 MHz has been dedicated to the people of Drass and its broadcast will be in Hindi, Urdu & Shina languages.
Pertinent to mention, in Kargil RGAZOM 90.8MHz is being operated as the first of its kind in Ladakh which is also being run by the Indian Army.
Meanwhile BDC Drass Noor Mohammad Thanked Indian Army for the Community Radio Station and urged upon the Government to Start All India Radio Kargil from AIR Drass and increase the Shina Programme from AIR Kargil.
He also requested for starting the Regional Version of PM Narendra Modi’s Mann Ki Baat Programme in Shina language.
