Srinagar, May 23: A 10-day NCC camp is being conducted in Gurez Valley, a remote and mountainous region in the northernmost part of Jammu and Kashmir, for 315 cadets from far-flung border districts of the Union Territory.
The camp, which began on May 22, is being organized by the 3rd Jammu and Kashmir Battalion of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) in collaboration with the Indian Army, a defence spokesperson said in a statement.
“Cadets from 44 institutes hailing from border districts of North Kashmir- Kupwara, Bandipora and Baramulla, are being trained in a variety of subjects, including physical fitness, drill, weapon training, first aid, and map reading. They are also being given lectures on topics such as national integration, patriotism, and civic sense,” he said.
“The camp is being conducted in a bid to promote national integration and patriotism among the youth of the border districts of Kashmir. It is also an opportunity for the cadets to learn new skills and develop their leadership qualities,” he added.
The spokesperson said the camp is being well-received by the cadets and their parents. “They are happy to have the opportunity to participate in such a camp and learn new skills. They are also grateful to the NCC and the Indian Army for taking the initiative to organise this camp close to the Line of Control bordering Pakistan,” he said.
The camp will conclude on May 31 and the cadets will be awarded certificates of participation at the closing ceremony. “The NCC camp in Gurez Valley is a step in the right direction and is expected to play a significant role in promoting national integration and patriotism among the youth of the border districts of Kashmir. The camp will help the cadets to develop their leadership qualities, physical fitness, and discipline, and will also help them to learn about the importance of national integration and patriotism,” the spokesperson said.
