Faculty of Forestry SKUAST-K concludes 5-day training prog on R Studio

Srinagar, July 18: Division of Social and Basic Sciences, Faculty of Forestry, SKUAST-K on Tuesday concluded the five-day training program on R Studio.
The main objectives of the program were to improve data analysis skills of research scholars of forestry on data visualization and statistical modeling in forest inventory and management through R software, to provide an interactive platform for students in order to enhance their understanding of modern statistical techniques used for analyzing data with the help of R programming, the SKUAST-K said in a press release issued here.
The program was aimed at enhancing data analytical skills, proficiency in R programming, statistical modeling capabilities, data-driven decision-making, and entrepreneurial opportunities among students and scholars.
This five-day training session on ‘Data Analytics in Forestry through R Studio’ sponsored by IDP-NAHEP and the Faculty of Forestry at SKUAST-K concluded at the campus in Benhama, Ganderbal.
The chief guest, Prof. Sajad A Gangoo, Dean, Faculty of Forestry said, “Now students are enjoying benefits of Information technology for which we were unfortunate because now the softwares play a great role in modelling and statistics.”
The dignitaries, faculty members, and participants were welcomed by Dr Syed Naseem Geelani, Head, Division of Social & Basic Sciences, and Convener of the training program who gave an overview of the training program. “We will try to conduct such programs in the future also,” he said.
Prof. Akhlaq A Wani, IDP-NAHEP coordinator in his address said that NAHEP will be sponsoring all such programs which are helpful for the student community and scholars. Dr. M. Iqbal Jeelani, the program’s organizing secretary, gave a thorough introduction to the agenda. He described in detail the R programming training courses that have been delivered.
The eminent experts who delivered their lectures include Dr. Rajendra Choure of the Institute of Science in Mumbai, Dr. MD Yasin of the Institute of Agri Statistical Research of India in New Delhi, and Dr. Sukhdev Mishra of the Indian Council of Medical Research, Prof Shakeel, Dr Faheem of SKUAST-K and Dr Immad from Indian Council of Medical Sciences.
Prof. P. A. Khan, the guest of the honor on the occasion, commended the organizing committee and the Division of Social & Basic Sciences for coming up with “such a wonderful’ training program for research academics which will be helpful in their future also.
Prof. GM Bhat, HoD SAF, Prof PA Sofi, Head, FPU, Prof Khursheed A Shah, Head, Wildlife Sciences participated in the function besides the scientists, non-teaching and students. The function was concluded by a formal vote of thanks by Dr Showket A Dar, Assistant Professor, SBS.
