Srinagar, Sept 03: Notwithstanding the price hike, there has been a surge in the sales of two wheelers in Jammu and Kashmir.
The information available with the regional transport office, Srinagar revealed that from the beginning of 2022 till the month of March this year, J&K saw a registration of 81031 two wheelers hitting the roads.
The Srinagar city is topping the statistical charts with a sale of 12088 new two wheelers hitting the roads in the year 2022. The trend is followed by district Baramulla in north Kashmir with a registration of 3236 new bikes and scooties till march 2023 while district Anantnag has recorded 3068 new registrations of the two wheelers
The data reveals that in district Budgam , 2569 new bikes and scooties have been registered .
The officials revealed that the spurt in the sales has also been recorded in the Jammu region.
“In Jammu region, 53052 new two wheelers have been registered till in the year 2022. Due to easy availability and low financial burden people prefer bikes and scooties.” an official at Regional Transport Office Jammu said.
A cumulative data available with the officials says that 428912 registrations were recorded in Kashmir region till March 2023 while Jammu city recorded 597400 registrations.
“ A total of 864679 two wheelers have been registered in the Jammu region”, officials said. Jammu and Kashmir has seen 1293591 registrations of two wheelers.
“We have seen a considerable surge in demand for loans for buying two wheelers. Scooties have become a favourite mode of transport among students, especially girls. Therefore there has been a significant increase in the sale of scooties over the past many years. The availability of loans from banks has made it an easily affordable option”, Muhammad Aamir, associate loan in-charge at a JK bank said.
According to the statistical data revealed by RTO Srinagar city has recorded 196727 registrations of new two wheelers topping the list followed by Anantnag with 49089 new registrations. In district Baramulla 41846 new registrations of two wheelers were recorded.
Simultaneously 38804 new two wheeler registrations were recorded in district Budgam.
