Bandipora, July 14 : A postal assistant posted at the Bandipora Post Office was arrested on Saturday after being caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of ?6,000 from a complainant, officials said.
According to a spokesperson of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), a team conducted a raid at the post office following a complaint. It apprehended the accused while he was accepting the bribe amount.
The accused has been identified as Mudasir Ahmad Najar, a resident of Rohama, Baramulla, currently working as a Postal Assistant in the Post Office Bandipora.
“The complainant had approached the ACB alleging that the official had demanded ?
6,500 for conducting physical verification of his business unit under the PMEGP scheme for subsidy disbursement. Acting on the complaint, the ACB laid a trap and caught the accused red-handed while accepting ?6,000 as part of the bribe,” the ACB said in a statement.
A case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
In a statement, ACB reiterated its commitment to act tough against corruption in public offices and urged people to report any such instances through the designated helpline and online complaint system.(KNS)
