Srinagar, June 22:  Amar Singh College celebrated the 11th International Day of Yoga with immense fervour as a significant number of students and faculty members took part in the Yoga celebrations.

The event witnessed the college students and teachers uniting with millions of Indians nationwide to advocate for health, wellness, and harmony through the practice of Yoga.

The event was organised by the Department of Physical Education in sync with the College Sports Committee.

The celebrations were part of a nationwide campaign spearheaded by the Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, who has been a prominent global proponent of Yoga and its comprehensive benefits. Motivated by his vision, the students and teachers performed various Yoga Asanas in the Bukhari Hall of the College, thus, highlighting the importance of both physical and mental well-being.

The performance of Yoga Asanas was followed by a brief but vibrant ceremony. At the occasion, Coordinator of the event, Prof Ajaz Ahmad Kanth remarked that Yoga transcends mere exercise and it embodies a lifestyle that harmonizes the body, mind, and spirit. He stressed upon the students to take pride in being part of this global initiative by embracing Yoga for a healthier life. Sehrish Latif and Sana Mehraj, who are students in their Second Semester and are nationally acclaimed Yoga Instructors, were honoured during the event for their leadership in the performance of Yoga Asanas at the event.

In his message, Principal, Amar Singh College, Prof. Ajaz Ahmad Hakak, reiterated that Amar Singh College is dedicated to fostering holistic education and wellness programmes, in alignment with the ethos of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” (the world is one family), as envisioned by the International Day of Yoga.

The event underscored the significance of Yoga in cultivating discipline, alleviating stress, and improving overall wellness. The enthusiastic involvement of both students and teachers demonstrated the increasing awareness and appreciation of Yoga as a vital component of everyday life
