Jammu, Jun 13: Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Ramgarh, Dr Devinder Kumar Manyal on Friday visited the historic Baba Chamliyal Shrine to inspect preparations for the annual Baba Chamliyal Mela, scheduled for June 26, 2025.

Located approximately 40 kilometres from Jammu and 17 kilometres from Samba, the shrine lies along the International Border with Pakistan and stands as a symbol of secularism and interfaith harmony.

Thousands of devotees from Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and other parts of India visit the shrine every year to pay homage to Baba Dalip Singh Manhas, revered as Baba Chamliyal.

Dr Manyal highlighted the recent blacktopping of the NABARD-funded road from Ramloo to Chak Salaria, inaugurated on 8th June 2025 at a cost of Rs. 2.56 crore, which will significantly improve connectivity to the Swankha Mandir and Baba Chamliyal Shrine.

He reiterated his commitment to strengthening infrastructure, preserving cultural heritage, and promoting spiritual tourism in the Ramgarh region.

The MLA said the word ‘Cham’ translates to ‘skin’, and people on both sides of the border believe that the ‘Shakkar’ and ‘Sharbat’ from the shrine have healing properties for various skin diseases.

“Devotees from Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Delhi, and other states also come to seek blessings and carry the sacred ‘Shakkar’ and ‘Sharbat’ home,” he said.

The 322-year-old Chamliyal Mela, held annually in Village Chamliyal, remains a powerful expression of faith, unity, and tradition near the International Border.
