Jammu, Jun 13: Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) Youth President, Shubham Singh, has called on Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to intervene in the ongoing controversy over the mandatory Urdu language requirement in the Naib Tehsildar recruitment exam.
Singh said Urdu should not be made a compulsory qualification, as it creates an unfair barrier for candidates from the Jammu region who are not proficient in the language.
In a statement issued here, the AAP leader said, “Jammu and Kashmir officially recognises five languages — Urdu, Hindi, English, Dogri, and Kashmiri. Making only Urdu a mandatory criterion violates the principles of equal opportunity and fairness enshrined in our constitution.”
Singh said the language requirement is a form of linguistic discrimination in competitive examinations. “It unjustly excludes thousands of qualified youth who may otherwise be eligible but are hindered by this condition,” he said.
The AAP leader also demanded that all official documents and procedural information related to Jammu and Kashmir be made available in all five official languages to ensure equal access and rights for every citizen.
