Baramulla, Dec 17: With an aim to provide quality education and involve students actively in different subjects, the Government Boys Higher Secondary School (BHSS) Baramulla has established a museum within its premises.
The museum includes agricultural equipment, lighting tools, household equipment, indoor games kit, and pre and post-Indian coinage, among various ancient tools and equipment that were used by Kashmiri people in early times, are displayed in the museum.
The initiative was taken two years back by the former Principal of the Institute and President’s National Teacher Award winner Javed Ahmad Rather and Zahoor Ahmed Rather, a senior history lecturer.
The senior history lecturer Zahoor Ahmad Rather believes that it is the first of its kind at the school level in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
“All the ancient items are the contribution of history students of 11th and 12th and even staff of the institute. It took me around two years to collect all these things from different sources. As time progresses, we will keep adding more things to it,” he said.
Rather further said that “It is an attempt to preserve and make students aware of their local cultural heritage. Such museums are required in every educational institution, so students can relate how development took place.”
Interestingly, when winter vacations end the general public as well as the students of other institutions will be allowed to visit the museum.
Principal of School, Bashir Ahmad Malla told Rising Kashmir that it is an attempt to make young students aware about their rich culture and legacy of ancestors.
“In the next ten years, this will be the best institute of the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.
Asked what steps will be taken to ensure zero disruption of classes during the visit of the general public, Malla said, there will be a proper action plan for the general public.
“We will issue proper timing for public visitors. If they wish, they can visit along with their families,” he added.
