Srinagar, Feb 27: The government is expected to take a decision on Friday regarding the extension of winter vacations for schools in Kashmir amid continued snowfall in the Valley.
While no official announcement has been made yet, an official from the Directorate of School Education Kashmir said that the decision will depend on prevailing weather conditions. If snowfall persists, the vacation may be extended until March 5.
Another official said that the Education Minister will chair a meeting tomorrow to discuss the situation and take a final call.
In December last year, the School Education Department had announced a phased winter vacation schedule, with schools up to Class 5 closing on December 10 and reopening on February 28.
Students from Classes 6 to 12 began their winter break on December 16, also set to end on February 28. However, with fresh snowfall disrupting normal life, extension of winter break is under consideration.
