Ganderbal, Jan 4: In a bid to enhance community preparedness and safety, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) Sub Component Gund in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, conducted a day-long awareness program at Shahi Hamdan Coaching Centre, Gund. The program witnessed active participation from over 57 students and teachers.
The program focused on critical topics such as snow avalanche preparedness, basic life support (BLS), and fire-fighting techniques. Experienced trainers from SDRF Gund Component delivered interactive sessions, demonstrating life-saving techniques and safety protocols to be followed during emergencies.
Participants were educated on identifying avalanche-prone areas, preventive measures to mitigate risks, and immediate actions to be taken in case of an avalanche. The basic life support session emphasized CPR, managing choking incidents, and stabilizing patients until professional help arrives. Additionally, fire-fighting techniques, including the use of extinguishers and other safety tools, were demonstrated to equip attendees with essential skills to combat fire hazards effectively. The students and teachers appreciated the initiative, stating that such programs are crucial for raising awareness about disaster management, especially in vulnerable regions like Gund. Officials from SDRF Gund Component highlighted the importance of community involvement in disaster preparedness and expressed their commitment to conducting more such sessions in the future.
