Tourists brave harsh winter to celebrate New Year in Sonamarg

Ganderbal Jan 01: Defying the bone-chilling cold with temperatures plunging to as low as minus 10 to 12 degrees celsius, tourists from across India thronged Sonamarg to welcome the New Year. The snow-clad meadows of this picturesque destination were abuzz with celebrations throughout the night.
Prominent hotels such as Snowland Hotel and Resorts and Hotel Country Inn Radisson reported full occupancy, with visitors eager to experience the unique charm of a Kashmiri winter. Many tourists expressed their joy at ringing in the New Year amidst fresh snowfall, which added to the festive spirit.
Speaking to Rising Kashmir, a group of tourists shared their enthusiasm for returning to Kashmir for the second consecutive year. “Last year, there was no snowfall during New Year’s Eve here, but this time, we were delighted to see the snow. It truly enhanced our experience and brought unparalleled joy,” one tourist remarked.
Despite the harsh winter, the celebrations continued into the early hours of the morning, with tourists dancing, singing, and enjoying the warmth of bonfires under the starlit sky. “The minus temperatures are challenging, but the beauty of this place and the festive spirit keep us going,” said another visitor.
Sonamarg’s New Year celebrations have become a testament to Kashmir’s growing appeal as a winter destination, offering tourists a unique blend of adventure and tranquility in the heart of the Himalayas.
