Chandigarh, Dec 4: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national general secretary Tarun Chugh on Wednesday strongly condemned the attempted shooting at former Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal within the Golden Temple premises.
“The incident underscores a complete breakdown of law and order under the Bhagwant Mann-led government in Punjab,” he said in a statement.
Chugh highlighted how the incident starkly reveals the unchecked operations of violent elements in the state. “If a person with Z-category security can be attacked, what safety can a common man expect in Punjab?” he asked.
The BJP leader accused the AAP leadership of interfering in the functioning of the Punjab Police, creating hurdles and fostering an environment where law enforcement is ineffective. He accused the government of enabling gangsters and radical elements, thereby perpetuating violence and unrest in the state.
“Prisons have turned into studios, and the common man is left at the mercy of lawless elements enjoying a free run in Punjab,” he alleged.
Such incidents, Chugh argued, have eroded public faith in the leadership of Bhagwant Mann and the Aam Aadmi Party. In a sensitive border state like Punjab, where security should be a top priority, Maan has failed the people of Punjab on all fronts, he asserted.
Calling for a thorough and impartial investigation, the BJP leader demanded that the case be handed over to the CBI or the NIA to uncover the disruptive elements involved.
