Anantnag, Oct 28: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Anantnag organized an awareness program on Monday, focusing on the prevention, prohibition, and redressal of sexual harassment at workplaces.
The event aimed to educate the public about the POSH Act, 2013, which seeks to create a safe environment for women employees by defining and prohibiting various forms of sexual harassment, including inappropriate physical contact, unwelcome sexual advances, and offensive remarks.
Muzammil Ahmad, Secretary DLSA Anantnag, said that the program was part of a nationwide campaign designed to honor and support women in the workforce.
He said that the initiative has two core objectives: recognizing the efforts of women employees with certificates and mementos, and raising awareness about the POSH Act to highlight its protections and benefits.
The event was attended by Additional Session Judge Masrat Roohi, who joined as a special guest. The DLSA, with the cooperation of the District Social Welfare Office, brought together several women from various offices to recognize their contributions.
“This campaign will continue under the guidance of the Supreme Court and similar programs will be held in collaboration with the District Administration to further empower working women,” DLSA Secretary said.
He said that it is important to remove stigmas and misconceptions surrounding workplace harassment, stressing that the POSH Act protects victims’ identities and ensures swift redressal of their grievances.
DLSA Secretary encouraged women to report harassment incidents without fear.
