Kulgam, Sep 05: Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami on Thursday said there is a need to restore constitutional rights and address the issues the younger generation faces. He said the restoration of statehood must be a priority for political parties in the new assembly.
Tarigami made these remarks while speaking to the media persons after a roadshow in Shurat village, two kilometres from Kulgam.
“I have faith in people and hold high expectations without any doubt. I particularly believe in the younger generation that they will vote wisely. Wherever I go, I see many young people with aspirations and emotions. They face various problems, just like the youth across the country,” he said. “However, the young people of Kashmir especially long for a dignified life and, most importantly, a sense of security.”
The CPI(M) leader further said, “In Kashmir, there is more fear than any other place in the country. The government has not done anything to remove this fear. All the policies adopted so far have only disappointed the younger generation.”
He said nothing good has been done since 2019 that the people of J&K should appreciate. “Our constitutional rights, land rights, job rights, and democratic rights—none have been addressed. We should be able to talk, meet openly, and express our emotions, but we have not had that opportunity since 2019. Our agenda should be for the new assembly to take steps to restore constitutional rights, including the restoration of statehood,” he said.
Tarigami said the new assembly should prioritise employment for the youth. He said the strength of the country lies in unity and brotherhood. “This is also the strength of Jammu & Kashmir. Our constitution gives every citizen the right to choose their faith, but no party should use faith politically—that may not be appropriate for society,” he said
