Srinagar, July 11: President of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Dr Farooq Abdullah and Vice President Omar Abdullah led party functionaries in paying their respects with tributes and Fateha at the “Mazar-e-Anwar” of “Madar-e-Meharban” Begum Akbar Jehan Abdullah at Qaid Mazar, Naseem Bagh Hazratbal.
All party leaders and functionaries were present on the occasion. They recounted the remarkable contributions of “Madar-e-Meharban”, highlighting her multifaceted roles throughout her lifetime. “Not only did she proudly wave the party flag high; she also provided guidance and strength to party workers during challenging times when Sher-e-Kashmir was under confinement,” they said.
The leaders emphasised that Begum Akbar Jehan was instrumental in “dismantling feudalism” in J&K and tirelessly advocated for the marginalised and impoverished members of society until her last breath. Describing her as the epitome of sacrifice, the leaders asserted that any discussion of J&K’s struggle for rights before and after 1947 would be incomplete without mentioning her name.
In Jammu, the party leaders paid tributes to “Madar-e-Meharban” at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhawan Jammu. Similar commemorative functions were held at all district headquarters across Jammu & Kashmir.
Meanwhile, the party’s General Secretary Haji Ali Muhammad Sagar express heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated workers, delegates and various party bodies for their unwavering presence at the event to honour the “Madar-e-Meharban”.
