Srinagar, Nov 05: Ajaz Ahmad Bhat, Director Sericulture J&K, while sharing his valuable insights informed that various schemes and programs are currently being implemented by the Department of Sericulture.
Bhat emphasized the department’s commitment to improving the livelihoods of silkworm rearers, farmers, and in particular, landless farmers, women folk, and unemployed youth. These initiatives aim to enhance employment opportunities and support the sericulture sector’s growth across Jammu and Kashmir.
He further informed that the Central Silk Board has recently sanctioned a significant amount of funds for the construction of 735 rearing sheds under the Silk Samagra-2 scheme which is first of its kind given the considerable number of sheds coming under the scheme which marks a new era of growth and economic development of Silkworm Rearers/farmers in J&K, fostering massive employment opportunities for a broad spectrum of society. Mr.Bhat expressed deep gratitude to Mr. P. Sivakumar, IFS, Member Secretary, Central Silk Board, Bengaluru, for his unwavering support in strengthening the sericulture sector in J&K.
Bhat highlighted that the Department of Sericulture not only provides phased financial assistance for constructing rearing sheds but also offers free rearing kits and disinfectants to silkworm rearers. Additionally, the department focuses on capacity building for its employees as well as for silkworm rearers, farmers, youth, and women folk. Mr.Bhat encouraged people to join hands with the department, highlighting that sericulture offers a dignified livelihood and a pathway to economic independence.
In line with its mission to reach all communities, the department is also extending its outreach to tribal areas across J&K. Mr.Bhat noted that increased awareness programs in these regions aim to ensure that people in tribal areas can also benefit from these initiatives, helping to improve their economic standing significantly.
He also shared that the Hon’ble Minister for Agriculture Production Department, J&K, has placed particular emphasis on the need for public outreach programs to ensure that the benefits of these initiatives reach every farmer involved in sericulture. According to Mr. Bhat, such efforts are critical in empowering farmers and ensuring they take full advantage of government schemes aimed at improving their livelihoods.
Bhat urged individuals interested in availing the benefits of departmental schemes, such as the construction of rearing sheds, to contact their nearest District Sericulture Office or the concerned Additional Directors Office.
For further assistance, individuals may also reach out to the Directorate of Sericulture Development, J&K. Mr.Bhat called upon the department’s officers and field functionaries to proactively inform and guide silkworm rearers, farmers, and other interested persons about the facilities available, including the online submission process for applications.
This announcement marks a major step towards transforming the sericulture industry in Jammu and Kashmir, with a focus on inclusive growth and sustainable employment.
