67th National School Games: DYSS hosts Judo, Fencing competitions in Jammu

Jammu, Nov 14: The Department of Youth Services and Sports, J&K is hosting 67th National School Games in the disciplines of Judo (U-14 boys & girls) and Fencing (U-19 boys & girls) from November 15 to November 24 at Gymnasium Hall, University of Jammu.
This was informed by Director Youth Services and Sports, Subash Chander Chibber, while addressing a press conference, here today.
He informed the media persons that the Judo events will commence from November 15 and will conclude on November 19, 2023, while the Fencing tournament will begin from November 20 and culminate on November 24, 2023.
He said that all the requisite arrangements for smooth and successful conduct of these games have been made. “Different committees have been constituted for holding the event in a most befitting manner” he added. He asserted that the Department had recently organised the 67th National School Games in the disciplines of Football and Volleyball at Srinagar wherein J&K created history by emerging as champion in Football by winning gold, besides bagging bronze medal in Volleyball.
The Director Sports further said that emerging champions in Football and winning third place in Volleyball at Srinagar was an outcome of rigorous training of athletes and transparency and fairness in the selection process.
He said the Department is hoping to win a good haul of medals in the sports disciplines being held in Jammu.
He said for the comfort of the athletes and good health of this prestigious event, the players have been lodged at Sarswati Dham and Kalka Dham, nearby to the University of Jammu, the venue of the events.
The Director underscored that thirty teams of various States/ UTs drawn from across the country are expected to take part in this sporting extravaganza. Out of which twelve teams have already reached Jammu.
He was accompanied by Joint Director Youth Services and Sports (J), Suram Chand Sharma, Deputy Director Youth Services and Sports (C), Jitender Mishra, Deputy Director Youth Services Sports, Planning Ravi Kumar and other senior officers of the department during the press briefing.
