4 Punjab residents dead, 3 injured in Kulgam road accident

Qazigund, May 25: Four Punjab residents died while three others were injured after their vehicle skidded off the road and met with an accident at Nepora Mirbazar in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Saturday afternoon.

An official said that a Scorpio vehicle bearing registration number PB47F 8687 was traveling from Jammu towards Srinagar when it met with an accident at Nepora near Grid Station Qazigund along the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway (NH44).

He said the injured were shifted to Government Medical College (GMC), Anantnag, where four of them were declared dead and three were admitted to the hospital.

A health official from GMC told Rising Kashmir that the deceased have been identified as Sandeep Sharma (28) son of Jagmohan Sharma; Romi Sharma (26) son of Surjeet Singh; Jagdish Aka Honey (23) son of Sirbjeet and Gurmeet Singh (23) son of Darshan Singh.

He said that Ashu (18) son of Vikram Singh is in critical condition and has been shifted to SKIMS, while Harchand Singh (34) son of Mukhtar Singh and Kiran Paul (25) driver son of Veer Singh are stable. All of them are residents of Moga, Punjab.

Police have taken cognizance of the accident and initiated further action.

Meanwhile, JKNC President Dr. Farooq Abdullah and Vice President Omar Abdullah expressed deep sadness over the tragic death of four tourists in the Anantnag road accident and the injuries sustained by others.
They extended their heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, praying for them to find strength during these difficult times. Additionally, they wished a speedy recovery for the injured and urged the authorities to ensure the best possible treatment for them. They also called for ex-gratia relief to be granted to the families who lost their loved ones.

LG expresses grief over tragic road accident
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has expressed grief over the tragic road accident in Kulgam today in which four residents of Punjab lost their lives and three others were injured.
In a condolence message, the Lt Governor said:
“I am deeply grieved and saddened to learn about the loss of precious lives in an unfortunate road accident in Kulgam today. My sincere condolences to the bereaved families. Praying for the early recovery of the injured. I have directed the District Administration to provide all necessary assistance, as provided in rule, to the affected families”.
