Srinagar, Jan 05: At least four people lost their lives, and two others, including the driver, remain missing after a vehicle skidded off the road and plunged into a deep gorge in the Massu-Padder area of Kishtwar district, officials said.
According to the police, the tragic incident occurred late Saturday when a Mahindra Bolero camper, carrying six passengers, veered off the road and fell into Bhot Nullah, a major tributary of the Chenab River. Search and rescue teams are actively working to locate the missing individuals.
The deceased have been identified as Raj Kumar, Mukesh Kumar, Haqiqat Singh, and Satish Kumar. Authorities fear that the missing persons may have been swept away by the strong currents of the nallah.
Meanwhile, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha also conveyed his sorrow over the loss of lives.
“Pained by the tragic accident in Kishtwar. In this hour of grief, my thoughts are with those who have lost their loved ones,” he said in a condolence message.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today expressed profound grief and sorrow over the tragic death of four individuals in an accident at Sanyas, Paddar area of Kishtwar district. Terming the incident as a great loss of precious human lives, the Chief Minister conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. He prayed for strength and fortitude for them during this hour of immense grief.
The Chief Minister assured that his office is in constant touch with the district administration, which is making all possible efforts to trace the two individuals still missing following the accident.
Union Minister and Udhampur MP Jitendra Singh also expressed his sadness over the incident.
“Saddened to learn that four passengers were found dead on the spot. Two others, including the driver, remain untraced. My sincere condolences to the bereaved families,” he posted on X.
Authorities have urged drivers to exercise caution while traveling on mountainous roads, particularly during winter when road conditions become treacherous. The search operation for the missing individuals is ongoing.
