Srinagar, Mar 01: A 21-day training program, Winter School’ titled ‘Understanding and optimizing ecological resources and Processes for profitable Organic / natural Farming with Sustainability’ concluded at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir.
The national level winter school, organised by SKUAST-K’s Directorate of Research under sponsorship of Indian Council of Agricultural Research New Delhi.
All in all 25 trainees from 10 states Viz. Tamil Nadu, Karnatka, West Bengal, Maharashtra, UP, Haryana, MP, Punjab, Rajasthan and Jammu and Kashmir participated in the training program.
Winter School course consisted of lectures, demonstrations, discussion and practical exercise based on latest developments on organic farming. All the important pillars of organic farming Viz, Organic Standards of India, Organic Technologies, Certifications, and marketing were deliberated in the training programme. Dr Gagnesh Sharma Director National Centre of Organic and Natural Farming deliberated procedures for organic certification especially Participatory Gurantee system of certification. Other speakers from ICAR were Prof. Y. Shivay, Prof. Anil Choudhary, Dr. R. S Bana and Dr. Manoj Choudhary conducted various sessions.
Vice Chancellor SKUAST K Prof Nazir Ahmad Ganai, who was the chief guest at the valedictory function, highlighted how diversity in culture, religion, subject etc is making India the Great. He appreciated Directorate of Research for bringing Participants from far flung states in this valuable training programme. Director Research Prof. Haroon R. Naik, Guest of Honour of the event gave the insightful remarks, how these capacity building programmes are enriching us educationally and personality wise. Organiser of the event, rof. Parmeet Singh presented the overview of training program. Prof Arshad H Mughal (Associate Director Research), Prof Masood Salim Mir (Associate Director Research (AS), Prof Nasir A Dar (Chief Scientist Agronomy) and Dr Baby Summuna (Asstt. Prof. Plant pathology) were also present in the event. Trainees were distributed participation certificates by Chief Guest of the event. The valedictory function ended with formal vote of thanks.
