Handwara, Oct 02: Sheikh Nowreena Reyaz, a 17-year-old girl from Magam, Handwara, has made her hometown proud by winning a gold medal at the National Kickboxing Championship held in Dehradun, Uttarakhand. Her remarkable achievement has brought laurels not only to her hometown but to all of north Kashmir.

Speaking to Rising Kashmir, Nowreena expressed her happiness and excitement over winning the gold medal. “I am very happy to have won the gold medal at this National Kickboxing Championship,” she said. Her dedication and hard work in martial arts have been evident since she began practising in 2012. Over the years, Nowreena has honed her skills at the Olympians Combat Sports Academy in Handwara, where she trained under a local martial arts coach.

Despite her success in sports, Nowreena is also focused on her academic goals. Currently pursuing a BA LLB in her first year, she is determined to achieve even greater success by cracking the civil services exam. “I am balancing my studies and sports, and I aspire to join the civil services,” she added.

Nowreena’s victory in the National Kickboxing Championship has inspired many young athletes in the small town, especially girls who look up to her as a role model. Her dedication to both her education and sport sets an example of perseverance and hard work.

The people of Handwara, including her family and friends, are immensely proud of her achievement. Her success has become a source of inspiration for the youth in Jammu and Kashmir.

In addition to her personal achievements, Nowreena is also actively training girls in martial arts. So far, she has trained dozens of girls and continues to visit schools to conduct demonstrations, encouraging them to pursue martial arts.
