JAMMU, May 20: Much enthusiasm was witnessed among Kashmiri Pandit (KP) migrant voters on Monday as they turned up in large numbers at all polling stations across Jammu to vote for the BaramullaLokSabha constituency, which went to polls today.
KP voters were seen queuing up at almost all polling stations across Jammu to cast their votes. However, during visits to some polling stations, confusion was observed at places like Udheywala, Jagti (01) station, and Nagrota, where KPs had given their consent for polling at a particular station, but their names appeared in other polling stations.
After discussing the matter with the concerned authorities, the KP voters, whose names appeared in separate seats despite their consent, were allowed to vote by the Election Commission of India (ECI),” former MLC GL Raina said.
In comparison to certain discrepancies and voter turnout during polling for the Srinagar LokSabha seat, the BaramullaLokSabha seat recorded a much higher voter turnout today among KPs.
There were good arrangements by the ECI this time as compared to the last phase of LokSabha elections,” GL Raina said, adding, “the KPs were upbeat to vote today.”
