Srinagar, Mar 16: The control room of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation has been the subject of multiple complaints due to irregularities and accusations of misconduct. According to sources within the corporation, certain casual laborers have been taking advantage of their positions, working only when they want to and neglecting their duties.
Some of these laborers have even been found to be working other jobs during their supposed hours of duty, while others are allegedly engaged in corrupt activities such as providing certificates with altered dates of birth for a fee.
Despite receiving complaints, the corporation has so far failed to take any action against these workers, some of whom appear to be enjoying preferential treatment. In some cases, employees have been transferred out of the control room only to be brought back soon after.
Meanwhile, other casual laborers and consolidated workers have expressed frustration at what they see as discrimination against them, as less educated workers are given more freedom to do their jobs while more qualified workers are forced to work under stricter conditions.
One anonymous casual laborer within the corporation even claimed that some casual laborers have been appointed as nodal officers for Levy Tax and a GIS expert, giving them undue influence over their colleagues.
Despite attempts to contact the Commissioner of SMC for comment, he has not yet responded to requests.
