Srinagar, Apr 17: In a major crackdown against the drug trafficking and drug abuse, the Anti Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) Monday recovered over 800 kilograms of poppy straw from a vehicle in the Narwal area of Jammu, officials said.
A senior official at Jammu and Kashmir Police told Rising Kashmir that they have seized large consignment of poppy straw from valley based truck and four people have been arrested during the initial investigation.
Briefing about the details, the official said that ANTF Jammu has seized a truck bearing registration number JK18A 0425 from Narwal and recovered 830.900 kilogram of poppy straw.
“We have registered a case in this regard under FIR, NO 02 U/S 8/15/29 NDPS act at PS ANTF Jammu and two interstate drug peddlers among 4 people have been arrested,” he said.
The two accused interstate drug peddlers have been identified as Nazil Qadir son of Ghulam Qadir Bhat resident of Rajpura Pulwama and Jaswinder Singh son of Manohar Singh R/O Phillaur Jalandhar have been arrested in the case.
“The ANTF team has zeroed in the main drug receivers who has been identified as Harvinder Singh Basi S/O Bhag Singh Basi and Digvijay Singh Basi S/O Harvinder Singh Basi residents of Garaha Phillaur Jalandhar who was wanted in multiple cases of NDPS in JK,” he said.
The officer said that team of ANTF was constituted which was led by Inspector Sanjeet Sharma under guidance of Shamsher Singh JKPS Dy.SP ANTF Jammu under overall supervision of Vinay Sharma JKPS, SSP ANTF J&K.
“With this recovery followed by immediate arrest of main receivers of drugs ANTF Jammu has been able to break the nexus of
Narcotics and Psychotropic drugs suppliers and receivers from Kashmir valley to Punjab,” he said.
The officer said that it has been hailed as a major success by ANTF the specialised force of JKP to tackle the menace of Drugs.
“ANTF J&K has appealed the general public particularly the youth to stay away from drugs and to share any kind of information regarding drug related activities with ANTF so that strict legal actions are taken against such drug dealers,” he said.
The officer said that the identity of the informant as well as whistle-blower shall be kept confidential. Persons found in drug peddling will be dealt strictly as per law.
“Community participation in the fight against drug abuse can serve the purpose of complete eradication of the menace of drugs from our society,” he said.
