Anantnag, Sep 13: The cricketing fervor reached its zenith as Zone Mattan and Zone Srigufwara clinched the titles in the highly competitive U-14 and U-17 Inter Zonal District Level Cricket Tournaments, orchestrated by the District Youth Services and Sports Officer (DYSSO) Anantnag. The grand finales, which took place at the prestigious Sports Ground in Jablipora Bijbehara, witnessed intense battles between the finest young cricketing talents in the region.
In the U-14 final showdown, Zone Bijbehara took the bat first and set a challenging target of 101 runs on the board. Zone Mattan, displaying exemplary resilience, managed to equal the score, leading to a nail-biting super over. In this nerve-wracking climax, Mattan Zone set a target of 10 runs, and the valiant Bijbehara side couldn’t chase it down, losing the match by a narrow margin of 2 runs. This triumph secured the U-14 title for Zone Mattan, leaving cricket enthusiasts on the edge of their seats.
Meanwhile, in the U-17 category, Zone Bijbehara batted first, amassing a competitive total of 104 runs. However, Zone Srigufwara, displaying unwavering determination, chased down the target with five wickets to spare. This resounding victory earned Zone Srigufwara the coveted U-17 championship title, cementing their status as the team to beat in the district.
The post-match presentation ceremony, graced by the field officials from DYSSO Anantnag, saw the triumphant teams being awarded trophies for their remarkable performances. Suhaib Nazir, a standout player from Mattan Zone, was bestowed with the prestigious “Man of the Tournament” award for his outstanding contributions. Suhaib accumulated an impressive tally of 280 runs, including two centuries, and also managed to take four crucial wickets throughout the tournament.
