Srinagar, July 3: To give fillip to sports in Jammu and Kashmir, the School Games Federation of India (SGFI) has allotted the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) prestigious National events and the DYSS will host 69th National School Games in four disciplines of sports including Football, Wushu, Taekwondo and Table Tennis.A statement issued here said that the decision in this regard was taken in the SGFI meeting held earlier this month at the Constitution Club of India in New Delhi, which was attended by Jatinder Mishra, Deputy Director Central of YSS, and Shivnandan Singh Mankotia, Section Officer. The prestigious events of Football and Wushu will be held in Srinagar, while the Nationals in Taekwondo and Table Tennis will be conducted in Jammu. After the successful conduct of 68th National School Games in the disciplines of Fencing, Wushu, Judo and Football which were held on the trot last season, the department is gearing up and all set to organize these tournaments in a most befitting manner this season. The Director General Youth Services and Sports J&K, Anuradha Gupta has expressed gratitude to School Games Federation of India (SGFI) for entrusting J&K with this responsibility. “We are honoured that SGFI has chosen J&K to host these prestigious National School Games. This is a viable example to our UT’s growing reputation as a hub for sporting excellence. These events will not only provide a platform for young athletes to showcase their talent but also inspire a new generation to embrace sports as a way of life. I have learnt that J&K had a record haul of medals last season and I hope our athletes will increase the same this season,” the DG Sports said. The hosting of these games is expected to bring together young athletes from across the country, fostering camaraderie and healthy competition while highlighting J&K’s potential as a premier destination for national sporting events.
