Pattan, Jan 22: In a tragic incident, a 26-year youth was charred to death, while two residential houses were gutted in a massive fire incident that broke in Khambiyar village of Pattan in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Monday.
The locals of the area revealed that fire broke out at 2 PM on Monday night at the residence of Bashir Ahmad Dar, son of Late Mohammad Ramzan Dar and within no time engulfed the entire house.
Ghulam Nabi, a local resident told Rising Kashmir that fire completely consumed the rooftop of Dar’s house and partially damaged the nearby house of Asadullah Ganaie, son of Habibullah Ganaie also.
“Although we contacted local fire stations in Pattan and Wanigam, there was a complete delay from their side. Locals tried to douse off the flames but were unable to control it,” he said.
After hours of struggle, the burnt body of Aadil Ahmad Dar (26), son of Late Mohammad Ramzan Dar and resident of Khambiyar, who was sleeping on the second floor had succumbed to the flames.
The locals urged district administration to set up fire stations in the area, so that such incidents can be thwarted in future.
SDPO Pattan, Mohammad Nawaz Khanday and DO Palhallan had reached the spot within no time and assisted the locals in controlling the fire from nearby houses.
He said that the police were on the spot, but unfortunately, Adil Ramzan lost his life, likely due to a short circuit in his electric blanket.
Dr. Mastoora Iqbal, Block Medical Officer Pattan said that the victim’s body was 100% burnt and damaged. The body has been transferred to GMC Baramulla for DNA sampling, she added.
The authorities sent the burnt body to GMC Baramulla for medico-legal formalities, attributing the apparent cause of the fire to an electric short circuit.
DC Baramulla Minga Sherpa visited the Khambiyar Pattan and expressed his condolences to the family of Aadil Ahmad Dar, who tragically lost his life in a fire incident. He also assured the family support of district administration during this difficult time.
SDM Pattan, Dr Syed Faheem and Tehsildar Pattan Saqib Murtaza along with other officials also reached the spot, expressing condolence with the bereaved family. They assured all possible help to the family of the deceased from the district administration.
Later in the afternoon, hundreds attended the funeral prayers of Aadil Ahmad Dar. Tearful farewell to the deceased youth was marked by women showering flowers on the coffin. Amidst moist eyes, Dar was laid to rest in the ancestral graveyard in Khimbiyar.
Dar was recently engaged in Pattan and family was preparing for his marriage this year. He is survived by his mother and brother. His father passed away a few years back.
Meanwhile locals requested District Administration Baramulla, SDM Pattan and the general public to help the victim’s family on priority basis.
