A tragic incident unfolded in Khambiyar Pattan area of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Monday, resulting in the loss of a 26-year-old youth’s life and partial damage to two residential houses.
As per locals that fire broke out during the night hours on Monday night in the residence of Bashir Ahmad Dar, son of Late Mohammad Ramzan Dar.
The fire completely consumed the rooftop of Bashir Ahmad Dar’s house and partially damaged the nearby house of Asadullah Ganaie, son of Habibullah Ganaie.
The burnt body of Aadil Ahmad Dar (26), son of Late Mohammad Ramzan Dar and resident of Khambiyar, who was sleeping on the second floor, succumbed to the flames.
Locals claim that the absence of fire tenders at the scene hindered efforts to contain the fire, allowing it to spread to nearby areas.
“We reached out to two nearby fire stations, but their delayed arrival proved critical. Despite locals’ attempts to extinguish the flames, they couldn’t do enough to save the life of 26-year-old Dar,” stated Ghulam Nabi.
SDPO Pattan, Mohammad Nawaz Khanday (JKPS), said that the police were on the spot, but unfortunately, Adil Ramzan lost his life, likely due to a short circuit in his electric blanket.
Dr. Mastoora Iqbal, Block Medical Officer Pattan that the victim’s body was 100% burnt and damaged. The body has been transferred to GMC Baramulla for DNA sampling.
The authorities sent the burnt body to GMC Baramulla for medico-legal formalities, attributing the apparent cause of the fire to an electric short circuit.
Police have taken cognizance of the incident and initiated an investigation.
