Former Indian cricket coach and iconic player Ravi Shastri expressed optimism about the future of cricket in Jammu and Kashmir.

Shastri, who first played in Srinagar in 1987 highlighted the significant improvements in the J&K’s cricketing landscape and the enthusiasm of the local community,

Reflecting on the transformation since his last visit, Shastri emphasized the growing interest in the sport and the increasing opportunities for young talent in the region. “There is immense potential here. The youngsters are full of talent, and with the right exposure, they can go far. The presence of legends in events like this is an inspiration for them,” he stated.

When asked about Umran Malik, the local fast-bowling sensation who has made a mark on the national stage, Shastri encouraged him to continue working hard amidst tough competition. “Umran has the talent, but he will need to stay dedicated and keep working hard.

The competition is fierce, but with determination, he can achieve great success.”

Shastri also shared his thoughts on the cricket ground, noting the improvements since his last match in the region 37 years ago. He praised the infrastructure, adding, “The ground looks good, and with some attention to the pitch and the outfield, it can be one of the best in the region.”

The Legends League Cricket event has brought numerous former international stars to Jammu and Kashmir, providing local players with valuable exposure and an opportunity to rub shoulders with seasoned cricketers. Shastri remarked that such events are essential for nurturing local talent and boosting their confidence.

“Watching big players was always a thrill for us as youngsters. These tournaments allow local talent to dream big and aim for greater heights,” Shastri concluded, underlining the importance of such platforms in shaping the future of cricket in the region. (KNS)
