Year 2024: Police register 56 cases under NDPS, books 134 drug peddlers in Budgam

32 awareness programs held to educate people about dangers of drug abuse

Budgam, Jan 01: In the year 2024, police in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district registered 56 cases under the NDPS Act and arrested 134 drug peddlers, in which 14 hardcore peddlers have been booked under the PIT NDPS Act across the district.
According to official figures of the Budgam Police, which said that the police have also attached 03 residential houses under the NDPS Act in the district during the year 2024. Moreover, illegally gained properties from proceeds of narco-smuggling worth Rs 1,28,15,930 crore were attached in the same year.
During this time period, the police have seized contraband substances, which include heroine (11 grams), charas (9 kg & 480 grams), chars powder (35 kg & 205 grams), cannabis powder (10 kg & 334 grams), poppy straw (96 kg & 101 grams), fuki (650 grams), codeine phosphate (124 bottles), & Spasmo Praxyvon (1249 tablets). The total value of seized contraband in the black market is worth Rs 70,53,453
The data said that during this time period, the police have also destructed illegally cultivated poppy crops, 07 kanals, 17 marlas of the agricultural land and destructed Bhang on 20 kanals of state land.
The data revealed that Budgam Police organized 32 awareness programs and campaigns across the district to educate the public about the dangers of drug abuse and to promote a drug-free society.
An official from the Budgam Police said that the police are taking strict actions against those people who are involved in the drug-peddling activities. So that the Budgam district will remain drug free district.
“During the year 2024, a total number of 56 cases has been registered under the NDPS Act, and 134 drug peddlers have been arrested, in which 14 hardcore peddlers have been booked under the PIT NDPS Act across the Budgam district,” he said.
