Srinagar, July 28: In a major breakthrough, the Jammu and Kashmir Police along with the Army, apprehended four terrorist associates in Kulgam, effectively dismantling a grenade throwing module responsible for the Yaripora grenade attack.
“The attack, which occurred on 24th May 2022, targeted a police party at Main Chowk Yaripora. However, the grenade missed its intended target and exploded among the crowd nearby, resulting in injuries to 13 innocent civilians,” the police spokesman said.
Following the incident, a thorough investigation was initiated, and a case (FIR No. 24/2022) was registered at the Yaripora Police Station. The joint efforts of the Kulgam Police and the Army’s 1RR unit led to the arrest of four terrorists/conspirators involved in the crime.
Those arrested have been identified as Nasir Nabi Dar, son of Ghulam Nabi Dar; Mohd Abass Dar, son of Abdul Ghani Dar, both residents of Gundchahal, Frisal; Aaqib Majid Ganie, son of Abdul Majid Ganie, a resident of Badroo, Yaripora; and Zahid Ali Bhat, son of Ali Mohd Bhat, residing in Kokergund, Yaripora.
The police spokesperson revealed, “During the course of the investigation, Kulgam Police along with Army (1RR), arrested four terrorist associates/conspirators for their involvement in the terror crime case.” The breakthrough operation also resulted in the seizure of incriminating materials, arms & ammunition, including a pistol, 02 pistol magazines, 14 pistol rounds, and a hand grenade from the possession of the suspects.
Accordingly, they have been formally arrested in the case and further investigation of the case is going on.
“It was a great synergy and coordination between the Indian army and police which are foiling every attempt of terrorists and their associates in south Kashmir’s Kulgam and other areas,” the officer said.
