Srinagar, Jan 23: Bilal Ahmed Dar, known for his dedicated efforts in cleaning Wular Lake, has received a special invitation to be a guest of honour at the Republic Day Parade on Kartavya Path during the 75th Republic Day celebrations on January 26, 2024.
The invitation, extended by Additional Director General Prasar Bharati, Mukesh Kumar, acknowledges Bilal’s recognition on the “Mann Ki Baat” program. The letter expresses the government’s warm invitation for him to attend the event, with arrangements made for his stay, meals, and transportation throughout the program.
“Your presence holds significance for the program, and we will arrange your stay, food, and transportation throughout the event,” reads the invitation letter.
Hailing from a humble family in Bandipora, Bilal gained national attention in 2017 when Prime Minister Narendra Modi commended his efforts in cleaning Wular Lake, considering him an inspiration for all. Following this recognition, the Srinagar Municipal Corporation appointed him as its Swachata brand ambassador, providing a monthly salary of Rs 10,000, along with a promised vehicle and shikara for his campaign.
Bilal’s remarkable journey was also documented in the acclaimed film ‘Saving the Saviour – Story of a Kid and Wular Lake,’ which garnered recognition at various film festivals.
Expressing his gratitude for the invitation, Bilal conveyed to Rising Kashmir that he sees this as an opportunity to garner further recognition from the government. His participation in the Republic Day Parade symbolizes the acknowledgment of grassroots environmental efforts, emphasizing the importance of community-driven initiatives in national development.
