Anantnag, Aug 27: Iltija Mufti, Media Advisor to former Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti, said on Tuesday that it is a great honour for her to be chosen by the party to represent the Bijbehara assembly constituency.
She made this statement while speaking to reporters after filing her nomination papers as the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate from the Bijbehara assembly constituency.
“It is a great honor for me that the party has chosen me to represent Bijbehara, a constituency where Abdul Rehman Veeri has done phenomenal work during the four consecutive terms he has served,” Iltija said.
She added, “Mehbooba and Mufti (Sayeed) also took their first political steps here in Bijbehara, so today is a very emotional moment for me, and I am truly honored.”
When asked about her visit to the graveyard of Mufti Sayeed, with her mother accompanying her, Iltija said, “It was a very emotional and poignant moment for me, and today I miss Mufti Sahib a lot. I am so honored that our old workers are also with us; it felt as though Mufti Sahib was with me, and I could feel his presence.”
Regarding KC Venugopal’s statement about forming an alliance to “save the soul of Kashmir,” Iltija said, “He is entitled to his opinion. As I mentioned earlier, it is crucial for parties to come together, and the PAGD, which was Mehbooba’s brainchild, was formed to represent the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.”
She also said, “I will express the suffering we are enduring and the ‘oppression’ that is ‘unleashed’ on us on the floor of the assembly. I have always been a supporter of truth, and I will continue to stand by it.”
