World Tourism Day: DLSA educates public on rights, sustainability

Budgam, Sept 27: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Budgam on Saturday organised an awareness programme at Khag to mark ‘World Tourism Day.’As per a statement issued here, the event was held under the supervision of O.P. Bhagat, Chairman, DLSA Budgam, and guidance of Nusrat Ali Hakak, Secretary, DLSA Budgam. The programme aimed to highlight the global importance of tourism in fostering intercultural understanding, promoting responsible travel, and contributing to socio-economic development. It also underscored the sector’s critical role in achieving the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).Paralegal Volunteers (PLVs) deputed by DLSA Budgam acted as resource persons and threw light on the legal aspects of tourism, focusing on tourists’ rights, consumer protections, safety regulations, and available mechanisms for dispute resolution. They also deliberated on challenges such as protection of cultural heritage and addressing environmental concerns linked to tourism. The awareness drive sought to educate the public about the socio-cultural and economic significance of tourism while sensitising them to its legal dimensions, thereby encouraging responsible and sustainable tourism practices.
