Ganderbal, Oct 10: The District Administration Ganderbal and District Hospital Ganderbal in collaboration with White Globe and Indian Army Unit Ganderbal Monday celebrated ‘World Mental Health day’ in the district.
The main event was held at Manigam during which a walkathon event was organized from Manigam Bye Pass to Farooq Abdullah Park Dursuma which was flagged-off by the Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC) Ganderbal, Mushtaq Ahmad Simnani which was organized by the Education department Ganderbal.
The Walkathon was organized with the purpose to highlight the importance of mental health in today’s era. The event witnessed a mass participation including local youth.
Later, an awareness programme was also held in the Farooq Abdullah Park Dursuma where the dignitaries expressed their views and importance on mental health issues.
The event was held successfully with a huge response from general public and thorough efforts of the Mental Health Unit of District Hospital Ganderbal under the directions of Medical Superintendent District Hospital Ganderbal and health administration Ganderbal.
Similarly, World Mental Health Day was also observed in Bandipora.
Speaking on the occasion, Block Medical Officer (BMO) Bandipora, Dr Masrat said that pandemic has affected everyone and people with long term health conditions or facing discrimination or parenting on their own are struggling the most and need more support.
“Along with treatment gap, we must address workplace stress, help adolescents in schools and also caregivers and families of people living with mental health issues”, said the BMO adding, “We need to proactively address stigma and discrimination associated with mental ill health that creates barrier to access care and treatment”.
