Ganderbal, Nov 21: In a vibrant celebration at Trout Fish Farm Mammar, Ganderbal joined the global commemoration of World Fisheries Day on Tuesday, expressing solidarity with fishermen and fish farmers worldwide.
The event, organized in collaboration with KVK and the Department of Fisheries, Ganderbal, was presided over by ADDC Ganderbal, Mr Mushtaq Ahmed Simnani, and attended by SDM Kangan, Javid Ahmed Rather, scientists from SKUAST (K), and Central University. A significant turnout of students and farmers marked the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, ADF Ganderbal, Salman Rauoof Chalkoo, underscored the pivotal role of the fishing community, contributing 25 percent to the global protein needs. He highlighted the Department of Fisheries’ efforts for farmer upliftment and economic advancement, encouraging youth to embrace fish farming and holistic agricultural practices.
ADDC Ganderbal acknowledged the significance of World Fisheries Day, commending the Fisheries department’s endeavours and emphasising the imperative for sustainable fisheries globally. Students from the Central University Kashmir added cultural flair to the celebration with two traditional Kashmiri events.
SDM Kangan lauded the collaborative efforts of stakeholders in managing and conserving fisheries resources in Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in the Ganderbal district. The event served as a platform to recognize and appreciate the contributions of the fishing community to global nutrition and sustainable development.
