Srinagar, June 05: In a concerted effort to preserve the environment, the north Kashmir charitable trust Handwara has taken a proactive step by hiring a dedicated team to collect polythene from the town of Handwara.
Recognizing that a one-day initiative is insufficient to safeguard Mother Earth, Dr. Mudasira, Managing Director of the North Kashmir Charitable Trust Handwara, emphasized the importance of maintaining a clean environment throughout the year.
Speaking to Rising Kashmir, Dr. Mudasira stated that it is the responsibility of every individual to protect nature. With this objective in mind, the trust began this initiative several months ago, offering door-to-door polythene collection and remuneration to the residents of Handwara. “However, despite the incentives provided, there has been no major positive response from the community. Polythene continues to be discarded indiscriminately, endangering the environment.”
To address this issue and ensure a safer environment, the North Kashmir Charitable Trust has launched a campaign to collect polythene.
The initiative has been welcomed by the local population, who acknowledge the importance of preserving their surroundings. The trust appealed to the people to cooperate actively in keeping their surroundings clean and tidy.
On International Environment Day, the North Kashmir Charitable Trust, in collaboration with the Tourism Department, organized a massive cleanliness drive at Bangus Valley in Kupwara district, located in North Kashmir. “This event aimed to raise awareness about environmental preservation and promote community participation in keeping the valley pristine,” Dr Mudasira said.
