Jammu, June 03: On World Bicycle Day, the students and volunteers were motivated to adopt a healthier lifestyle which will not only benefit them but will also bring in change in the environment they are living in.
The Office of the Programme Coordinator, NSS commemorated ‘World Bicycle Day’ at the University of Jammu on Saturday. The event was aimed to popularise and adopt the use of cycling as a solution to avert global warming and as a norm for a healthier lifestyle while celebrating and cherishing the noble ideas that inspired the freedom struggle, the university said in a press release.
In this regard, a cycle rally was organised at the University of Jammu in which more than 80 NSS volunteers participate. The cycles for the said programme were sponsored by the Chairman, Smart City Project, Jammu. The entire event was conducted under the chairmanship of the Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu Prof Umesh Rai.
Dr Hema Gandotra, Programme Coordinator flagged off the rally along with the Programme Officers Dr Meghna Dhar and Dr Mandeep Singh. Earlier Dr Hema Gandotra congratulated the volunteers for their mass participation and for becoming the ambassadors on this day to carry forward the mission behind the celebration of this day. She highlighted the importance of celebrating World Bicycle Day and focused on how the ideological orientation of the youth gets inspired by the commemoration of such days.
The event was managed by the Programme Officers of the campus Dr Meghna Dhar and Dr Mandeep Singh and was coordinated by the senior NSS volunteers Ketan Kumar, Manvi Sharma, Anuj Sharma, Rishi Sharma, Toiba Fatima and others. The entire event was conducted with the coordination of the Office of the NSS Programme Coordinator, University of Jammu.
