Ganderbal, Mar 14: Construction of a temporary bridge near Kijpora, Kangan in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district is currently in progress as authorities work to address structural issues with the old bridge. The Kijpora bridge, a critical link connecting the SSG Road, developed a structural snag in November last year, prompting the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) to restrict traffic to one-way movement.
The BRO has also constructed a temporary road on the other side of the bridge to facilitate smoother traffic flow and minimize inconvenience for commuters. According to a BRO worker at the site, work on the temporary bridge is ongoing, and if weather conditions remain favorable, the structure is expected to be completed soon. Once the temporary bridge is operational, the BRO plans to begin construction of a new permanent bridge, said sources.
The Kijpora bridge serves as a lifeline for traffic in the region, particularly during the summer months when vehicular movement increases significantly. Drivers have reported frequent traffic jams at the site, urging the BRO to expedite the reconstruction of the bridge to avoid further inconvenience.
Local commuters and drivers have expressed hope that the temporary measures will alleviate congestion while awaiting the completion of the new bridge.
