Women should be encouraged in all fields of life: Secy DLSA Anantnag

Anantnag, Apr 04: “Since law gives equal opportunities to all the citizens irrespective of caste, colour, religion and sex, therefore women folk should not be discriminated and given equal opportunities in all fields,” said Secretary DLSA Anantnag, Mir Wajahat on Tuesday.
“Women folk should be encouraged in all fields of life and girls from the beginning should be treated on equal lines with boys,” Wajahat, who was the chief guest, said in his address at an awareness camp on Poshan Activities under Poshan Pakhwada at Government Women’s College Anantnag organised by J&K Women Development Corporation Anantnag. A large number of women from different fields of life participated in the programme.
The officer described the Poshan Pakhwada as “an innovative scheme devised by the Central government for the welfare of the women and children”.
J&K Women Development Corporation Anantnag on Tuesday organised an awareness camp on Poshan Activities under Poshan Pakhwada at Government Women’s College Anantnag in which a large number of women from different fields of life participated.
The programme was sponsored by the National Minorities Development & Finance Corporation (NMDFC), Ministry of Minority Affairs. The theme of this year’s Poshan Pakhwada 2023 is “Nutrition for All: Together Towards a Healthy India”. The programme was aimed to raise awareness about the importance of nutrition and promote healthy eating habits.
District Officer, WDC Anantnag, Shabir Ahamd Wani welcomed the guests and discussed the achievements and schemes of Women Development Cooperation Anantnag. On the occasion, the speakers spoke about the importance of women’s rights and duties, women’s nutrition, health and other women-related issues.
Principal Women College Anantnag, Dr. Irfan Majid who was the guest of honour said that though women have proved their mettle in all fields of life, still more needs to be done in terms of women’s safety at workplaces to avoid discrimination. She advocated for equal opportunities for both boys and girls.
District Social Welfare Officer Anantnag said that the Social Welfare department aims to organise awareness programmes in all parts of the district to empower women folk. The officer said it would provide all possible support to WDC Anantnag.
Among others who spoke on the occasion include HoD Department of Education, GDC Women Anantnag, Parveena Banday and experts from the Social Welfare and Health departments.
